Highlights & NewsNew Faces at the CPSC President Obama recently nominated former Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle, of New York, to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). If confirmed, Ms. Buerkle, will fill the unoccupied seat left vacant by the departure of Republican Anne M. Northrup. There is currently another pending nomination for the Commission, that of Marietta Robinson, who was President Obama’s choice in 2012 to replace outgoing Democratic Commissioner Thomas Moore, but whose nomination has been stalled in Congress. It is speculated that these two nominations will be paired for confirmation by the U.S. Senate in the coming months to ensure the Commission maintains its necessary quorum. Although it has not been publically announced by the agency, the CPSC has recently added Ray Aragon as the agency’s new Director of Compliance & Field Operations. Most recently a partner at McKenna, Long & Aldridge LLP, Mr. Aragon has a background in commercial litigation that includes product liability claims. |
